CASE #02 | My Korean Heart

Mula sa Lovers in Paris, My Girl, Green Rose, Millionaire’s Bride, Save the Last Dance, Coffee Prince, Princess Hours, Queen Seon Dok, Wish Upon A Star, The Heirs, My Love From the Stars hanggang ngayon sa Descendants of the Sun, Oh My Ghost, Legends of the Blue Sea, Goblin, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joon, Hwarang, at Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. Lahat iyan kinabaliwan ko.

Actually, nagsimula iyan sa Meteor Garden. Iyong nag-order pa ako ng pagkamahal-mahal at pagkadami-daming VCD para makapag-marathon. Take note, VCD! Can you imagine kung anong panahon ito?

Nakakatawang ang platform na gamit ko sa panonood reflected the transition of years in my Korean drama addiction. What really amazed me was how things have changed as time passed by. Even the phones and gadgets they used in those K-drama episodes have evolved. From flip-phones to touchscreens...it definitely showcased the evolution of the Samsung phone.

Fashion styles have also evolved through times. More and more Filipinos were embracing the K-pop culture. We sang their songs by heart even if we don't really understood the words. But there were those that really went out of their way to take Korean lessons just to fully grasp the emotions of every song.

When the era of seat sales dawned in, South Korea became one of the favorite destinations. You will see Instagram and Facebook selfies to places where these K-dramas were shot, even those establishments owned by Korean celebs and boy bands were flooded with Pinoy fans. Korean skin care and make-up products also took the country by storm. Suddenly, we all wanted to achieve the ultimate Korean look.

Korean barbecue restaurants have sprouted all over the country. Korean dishes have captured the palate of sisig-loving Pinoys. I myself, who hates eating veggies, can now finish a bowl of fresh lettuce wrapped around that freshly grilled marinated pork galbi. Kaya nga mas gusto na ng asawa ko na mag-Korean restaurant kami every week para raw napapakain niya ako ng gulay.

Koreans have truly captured the hearts of Filipinos. Now, all of us were doing our own version of that cute Korean heart.
